Is this an age-appropriate activity for groups of young children?
While our rooms are family friendly, the games are designed to challenge and entertain groups of 6-8 adults. Children under 13 may struggle with the reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, and focus required for our hour-long games.
To ensure that younger players have a fun experience, please review the following guidelines:
- We strongly recommend 1 adult per every 4 children in your group. If you have more than 4 children in the party, you really need to have at least 2 adults to assist with the complex puzzle solving.
- All adults must come prepared to play the game—we promise, it's fun!
- Be aware that the games are not designed to be a guided experience. While we do provide some hints, it is up to the players to solve the puzzles.
- Our escape rooms are not age-appropriate experiences for groups of children younger than 10 years old.
- Due to the number of puzzles included in each escape room, these are not good activities for one adult and one child. If you have a child who would like to play, please bring several adults with you—the more, the merrier!
- We do not have a designated party space for food or gift exchanges. Please refrain from bringing food.
Here are our room recommendations for kid-heavy groups:
- Alien Invasion (up to 6 players, adults included)
- Dr. Gem's Time Trap (up to 8 players, adults included)
- Southport School for Wizards (up to 8 players, adults included)
We understand that all kids are unique and that some younger players may excel in the rooms. These are our guidelines based on years of experience facilitating games for all ages. If you have questions regarding your group’s individual needs, please call us at 207-274-6007 or email us at reservations@maineescapegames.com.
